Journal of Insect Biology and Applied Entomology (JIBAE)
The Journal of Insect Biology and Applied Entomology (JIBAE) recognizes authorship as an important academic responsibility. Authorship should be assigned only to individuals who have made significant intellectual, scientific or scholarly contributions to the submitted manuscript.
The journal expects all authors to meet ethical authorship standards and to take responsibility for the accuracy, integrity and originality of the published work.
Authorship Policy
All individuals listed as authors must have contributed substantially to the research work and must approve the final version of the manuscript before submission. Each author should be able to take public responsibility for the appropriate portions of the work.
Authorship should not be granted on the basis of position, seniority, funding support, supervision or institutional affiliation alone.
Criteria for Authorship
An individual may qualify for authorship if they have made significant contributions to one or more of the following:
Research Concept
Conception, design, planning or development of the research study.
Data Contribution
Collection, generation, analysis or interpretation of research data.
Manuscript Preparation
Drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
Final Approval
Reviewing and approving the final version of the manuscript before submission.
Responsibilities of Authors
- Ensure that the manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.
- Confirm that all listed authors have made substantial contributions.
- Approve the final version of the manuscript before submission.
- Disclose conflicts of interest, funding sources and acknowledgements.
- Ensure accuracy of data, references, figures and tables.
- Respond promptly to editorial and reviewer queries.
- Cooperate with corrections, clarifications or investigations when required.
Corresponding Author Responsibilities
The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal during submission, peer review, revision and publication. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors are informed about the submission and agree with the final manuscript content.
- Submit the manuscript on behalf of all authors.
- Ensure correct author names, affiliations and contact details.
- Communicate reviewer comments and editorial decisions to co-authors.
- Submit revisions and required documents on time.
- Handle post-publication communication where necessary.
Contributorship
JIBAE encourages transparency in author contributions. Authors may be required to provide a contribution statement describing the role of each author in the research and manuscript preparation.
Examples of contributions include conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data analysis, writing, review, supervision, funding acquisition and project administration.
Acknowledgements
Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section. This may include technical assistance, language editing, administrative support or general supervision.
Acknowledged individuals should be included only with their permission.
Changes in Authorship
Any request to add, remove or rearrange author names after submission must be clearly justified and approved by all authors. The Editorial Office may request written confirmation from all authors before considering such changes.
Authorship changes after acceptance are generally discouraged and will be allowed only under exceptional circumstances.
Unacceptable Authorship Practices
Guest Authorship
Listing someone as an author without substantial contribution to the work.
Gift Authorship
Adding an author as a courtesy, favor or based only on seniority or position.
Ghost Authorship
Excluding a person who made a substantial contribution to the manuscript.
Disputed Authorship
Submitting work without agreement from all legitimate contributors.
Authorship Disputes
Any authorship dispute should be resolved by the authors and their institution before submission whenever possible. If a dispute arises during the editorial process, the journal may pause manuscript handling until the matter is resolved.
The journal does not adjudicate personal or institutional authorship disputes, but it may request documentation, author confirmation or institutional guidance.
Ethical Compliance
All authors are expected to follow ethical publication practices. Misrepresentation of authorship, omission of eligible contributors or inclusion of ineligible authors may result in rejection, correction or retraction.
JIBAE is committed to fair authorship attribution and responsible scholarly publishing in accordance with accepted academic standards.
