Conflict Of Interest

Journal of Insect Biology and Applied Entomology (JIBAE)

The Journal of Insect Biology and Applied Entomology (JIBAE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency, integrity and ethical publishing. Authors, reviewers and editors are required to disclose any actual, potential or perceived conflicts of interest that may influence the research, peer-review process or editorial decisions.

Full disclosure helps ensure fairness, objectivity and confidence in the scientific publication process.

Policy Statement

A conflict of interest exists when professional judgment concerning a primary interest, such as research quality or editorial objectivity, could be influenced by a secondary interest including financial, personal, professional, academic or institutional relationships.

The journal requires complete disclosure of all relevant conflicts of interest at the time of manuscript submission and throughout the publication process.

Author Responsibilities

  • Disclose all financial support and funding sources.
  • Declare personal or professional relationships that may influence the research.
  • Report employment, consultancies, advisory roles or stock ownership where relevant.
  • Disclose patents, patent applications or intellectual property interests.
  • Provide a Conflict of Interest Statement within the manuscript.
  • Notify the Editorial Office if any conflict arises after submission.

Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers should decline invitations to review manuscripts if any conflict of interest could affect their objectivity.

  • Maintain confidentiality throughout the review process.
  • Disclose personal, financial or professional conflicts immediately.
  • Avoid reviewing manuscripts from close collaborators or competitors.
  • Not use unpublished information for personal advantage.
  • Provide unbiased and objective evaluations.

Editor Responsibilities

Editors are expected to make independent editorial decisions based solely on scientific quality and relevance to the journal.

  • Declare conflicts of interest before handling manuscripts.
  • Recuse themselves from manuscripts where conflicts exist.
  • Maintain confidentiality during editorial handling.
  • Ensure transparent and unbiased editorial decisions.
  • Avoid commercial or personal influence on publication decisions.

Examples of Conflicts of Interest

Financial Interests

Research funding, grants, employment, consultancy fees, stock ownership, patents or commercial sponsorship.

Professional Interests

Collaboration, institutional relationships, academic competition or advisory positions related to the submitted work.

Personal Relationships

Family relationships, close friendships or personal disputes that may affect professional judgment.

Academic Interests

Direct competition, supervisory relationships or shared research projects with authors.

Disclosure Statement

Authors should include a dedicated Conflict of Interest Statement within the manuscript. If no conflicts exist, authors should clearly state:

"The authors declare that they have no known financial, personal or professional conflicts of interest that could have influenced the work reported in this manuscript."

Failure to Disclose

Failure to disclose a relevant conflict of interest may result in editorial action, including manuscript rejection, publication of a correction, retraction of the article or notification of the relevant institution where appropriate.

Editorial Assessment

The Editorial Office will evaluate disclosed conflicts of interest and, where necessary, take appropriate measures to protect the integrity of the peer review and publication process.

Disclosure of a conflict does not automatically prevent publication; however, failure to disclose relevant information may constitute publication misconduct.

Journal Commitment

The Journal of Insect Biology and Applied Entomology is committed to promoting ethical publishing practices through transparency, accountability and responsible disclosure of conflicts of interest by all participants in the publication process.

JIBAE encourages complete transparency from authors, reviewers and editors to maintain the credibility, integrity and trustworthiness of published scientific research.
