Generative AI Policy

Generative AI Policy | JIBAE

Journal of Insect Biology and Applied Entomology (JIBAE)

The Journal of Insect Biology and Applied Entomology (JIBAE) recognizes the growing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in scientific research and manuscript preparation. The journal supports the responsible, transparent and ethical use of AI technologies while maintaining the integrity, originality and accountability of scholarly publications.

Authors, reviewers and editors must ensure that the use of AI does not compromise scientific accuracy, research ethics or publication standards.

Use of Generative AI by Authors

Authors may use Generative AI tools to improve language, grammar, readability or formatting of manuscripts. However, authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality and integrity of all submitted content.

  • AI tools may assist with language editing and manuscript organization.
  • Authors must carefully review and verify all AI-generated content.
  • Scientific interpretations, conclusions and research findings must remain the responsibility of the authors.
  • Authors should disclose significant use of Generative AI within the manuscript when appropriate.

Unacceptable Uses of AI

Fabrication of Data

AI must not be used to create, manipulate or fabricate research data, experimental results or scientific observations.

False Images

AI-generated images, figures or illustrations must not misrepresent research findings or experimental evidence.

Fake References

Authors must not use AI-generated citations without verifying that the cited sources are genuine and accurate.

Plagiarism

AI tools must not be used to generate plagiarized, copied or misleading scientific content.

Author Responsibilities

  • Authors remain fully accountable for all manuscript content.
  • Authors must verify factual accuracy of AI-assisted writing.
  • All references, data and scientific statements must be independently checked.
  • Authors are responsible for ensuring originality and avoiding plagiarism.
  • Confidential research data should not be uploaded to public AI platforms.

AI as an Author

Generative AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript. AI systems cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, originality, copyright or ethical accountability of scientific publications.

Use of AI by Reviewers

Reviewers should not upload confidential manuscripts or unpublished research to public AI systems. Any use of AI during peer review must protect manuscript confidentiality and comply with the journal's ethical standards.

  • Maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.
  • Do not disclose unpublished research to AI platforms.
  • Editorial recommendations must be based on independent scientific judgment.

Use of AI by Editors

Editors may use AI-assisted tools for administrative purposes such as language checking or workflow support. Final editorial decisions must always be made by qualified editors based on independent academic evaluation.

Disclosure of AI Use

Where Generative AI has been used beyond basic language editing, authors should include a clear disclosure statement describing how AI assisted during manuscript preparation.

Example Disclosure: "The authors used a Generative AI tool to improve grammar and language readability. All scientific content, analysis, interpretation and conclusions were reviewed, verified and approved by the authors."

Research Integrity

JIBAE expects all submitted manuscripts to represent genuine scientific research. Any misuse of Generative AI that results in fabricated data, misleading information, manipulated images or unethical publication practices may result in rejection, correction or retraction.

Journal Commitment

The Journal of Insect Biology and Applied Entomology supports responsible innovation while maintaining high standards of scientific integrity, transparency and ethical publishing. The journal encourages appropriate use of Generative AI only when it enhances scholarly communication without compromising research quality or academic responsibility.

Authors, reviewers and editors are expected to use Generative AI responsibly, ethically and transparently while ensuring that human expertise remains central to scientific research and publication.
