Forms of Research Misconduct

Data Fabrication

Creating or inventing research data, observations or experimental results that were never obtained.

Data Falsification

Manipulating research materials, methods, images or data in a misleading manner.

Plagiarism

Using another person's ideas, text, figures or data without proper acknowledgement or citation.

Duplicate Publication

Submitting or publishing substantially similar work in more than one journal without appropriate disclosure.

Authorship Misconduct

Including individuals who did not contribute or excluding deserving authors from the manuscript.

Citation Manipulation

Adding unnecessary or misleading citations to influence citation metrics or journal impact.

Author Responsibilities

  • Submit only original and authentic research.
  • Maintain complete and accurate research records.
  • Present research findings honestly without manipulation.
  • Disclose conflicts of interest and funding sources.
  • Obtain required ethical approvals before conducting research.
  • Cooperate with editorial investigations when requested.

Editorial Investigation

When research misconduct is suspected, the Editorial Office may conduct a confidential investigation. Authors may be requested to provide original data, supporting documentation or clarification regarding the concerns raised.

The journal may also consult reviewers, editorial board members or the authors' institution where appropriate.

Editorial Actions

Depending on the severity of the misconduct, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:

Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Provide objective and evidence-based comments.
  • Inform editors of suspected ethical issues promptly.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring that allegations of research misconduct are handled fairly, consistently and confidentially. Editorial decisions are based solely on scientific evidence and publication ethics.

  • Ensure impartial investigation of complaints.
  • Protect the confidentiality of all parties.
  • Take appropriate corrective action where necessary.

Post-Publication Actions

If research misconduct is identified after publication, the journal may issue corrections, expressions of concern or article retractions to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the published scientific literature.

Whistleblower Protection
